DE LA SALLE BELFAST 2-10

DE LA SALLE DOWNPATRICK 2-07

De La Salle U19s travelled to Downpatrick on Friday 2nd December to play their namesakes De La Salle Downpatrick and came away with a three-point win after a tight encounter.

The Edenmore Drive side got off to a great start by scoring the first three points, all knocked over by Brian Healy. Downpatrick responded in dramatic fashion, notching 1-1 in a matter of minutes to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish until midway through the second half. Despite two more scores from Healy, Downpatrick headed into the break with a 1-06 to 0-05 lead.

Downpatrick extended their lead in the second half when they were awarded a penalty which was dispatched past replacement keeper Odhran Nolan. To their credit, the Belfast side upped the tempo and began to reel in Downpatrick with a series of points from Ahmad Soda, Patrick Crawford and a special solo goal by Brian Healy. Christopher Hale and Oisin Murphy began to dominate midfield, with Odhran Lee, Joe Wilson and Ahmad Soda shoring up the defence.

With the game in the balance, up stepped substitute Daire McManus, who came on for the industrious Eoin Murray, to seal the win with a goal with five minutes to go. The final few minutes saw exceptional defending from Conal McGivern and Eoin Saunders despite a black card for the impressive Joshua Miskimmin. Darragh Austin and Deaglan O'Connor, who replaced the experienced Caoimhin Pierce, continued to probe for another score before the final whistle signaled a three-point win.
