Poetry Aloud is an annual poetry speaking competition for post-primary school students across the island of Ireland and was launched in 2006. Since then, it has grown extraordinarily from just a few hundred entries to over 1,600 entries in 2016. De La Salle has taken part over various years and in 2016 Nathan Quinn O’Rawe was chosen as overall winner and awarded the Seamus Heaney Poetry Aloud Award.

La Salle's Sports Hall was buzzing with festive energy and enthusiasm as over 300 pupils and staff participated in its annual and popular Charity Santa Hat Aerobics. The enjoyable session was conducted brilliantly by the charismatic fitness guru, Fitness Freddie. The designated charity this year was deterMND. Organiser of the event, Paul Buchanan was delighted with the attendance and positive response of pupils and staff. “Every year our pupils and staff excel in supporting this fun event and have supported many worthy charities down through the years,” he said. “We are delighted to be able support deterMND this year as many of our staff and pupils would know Anto Finnegan through their GAA connections. Anto was unable to attend the event as he was in New York, but sent a video link wishing everyone good luck for the event. Organising the event has helped facilitate the key objective of deterMND in raising awareness of MND among the school community.” Congratulations to all participants in contributing to a successful and memorable event for such a worthy charity.
